Battery Deep Discharge

Maintain Battery Efficiency with the Deep Discharge Procedure. To help maintain performance and extend the life of your Battery Packs, we would like to remind you that it is necessary to perform the Battery Deep Discharge Procedure. Failure to perform the procedure can result in diminished capacity and reduced performance. It is recommended that you do the following procedure at least once a month to maintain efficient performance of the batteries.

Note: The iBOT® Mobility System’s battery charge level should be drained down to ONE bar before performing this procedure.

  • Use your iBOT® Mobility System as you normally would during the day.
  • Attempt to drain the battery as low as possible while minding the low battery indicators.
  • When you are finished using the device for the day, leave it ON with the lights on and select Update Mode on the UCP to minimize the audible alarms as the battery drains.
  • Plug the charger in. Ensure the green LED on the charger is lit and the red lights are blinking.
  • Let the iBOT® Mobility System power itself OFF. The charger will begin charging the device once it powers OFF.
  • Allow extra time the next morning to achieve a full battery charge.

Important:
Even with proper maintenance, battery capacity will naturally diminish over time due to the limitations of current NiCad technology. For optimal performance and to extend the useful life of your batteries, the Deep Discharge Procedure can be performed more frequently (between 2 – 3 times per month). Performing the procedure more than 3 times per month is not beneficial and will not improve performance. If you are experiencing early battery alarms, it may also be beneficial to perform up to three (3) consecutive Deep Discharge cycles to help restore battery capacity.

Reminder:
As part of your maintenance routine, it is important that you fully charge your batteries (typically overnight), regardless of the level of discharge. Always ensure that the batteries are fully charged following a routine charge cycle and after performing a Deep Discharge Procedure. Please refer to Section 11 of your User Manual for additional instructions and guidance.
