I can remember dreading the climb up the stairs to my office at a major university in southern California or the trek to attend faculty meetings on the upper floor of the building. The pain and discomfort it caused my legs at times was unbearable. Having been diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy, I've had limited use of my legs for most of my life. Since I received my INDEPENDENCE® iBOT® 4000 Mobility System last year, my pain and discomfort have decreased significantly.
 

I received my iBOT® Mobility System in October 2006, and it's helped me immensely since day

one. As a professor, it's important for me to take command of a classroom. With my iBOT® Mobility System, I can do just that. A majority of my students are studying English as a second language to help with their graduate studies, writing theses and dissertations and teaching as International Teaching Assistants. By easing the strain on my legs, my iBOT® Mobility System allows me to better engage them as a class. I can concentrate fully on teaching, because I no longer have to worry about falling. Prior to receiving my iBOT® Mobility System, I would be in terrible pain after standing and lecturing for two hours. Now I can comfortably sit as I teach and observe my students while proctoring an exam. The iBOT® Mobility System's Balance Function allows me to rise up or drop down to their eye level and reach high places independently and without pain. It's certainly enhanced my ability as an educator.
 

Many of my students are from different countries where ADA laws don't exist and people with certain disabilities are looked at differently. When they see me in my iBOT® Mobility System, I can clearly see their mindsets toward people with certain disabilities changing because they see the high level of things I'm able to accomplish in this amazing device.
