If you've ever been to a car race before, you know that the real action isn't just on the racetrack. It's also on the infield where fans set up their RVs to tailgate!
 

Unfortunately, in past years, people with disabilities at the Houston Grand Prix couldn't join in on the fun. As an accessibility specialist, I helped change that. This year, the Grand Prix hired me - "the Accessibility Guy" - to make the infield, grandstand seating and bathrooms accessible for all people with certain disabilities.

As a person who's lived with spina bifida for

most of my life, I understand the daily obstacles that people with disabilities face. For the past 17 years, using my personal experiences and professional expertise, I've counseled corporations in my area on how they can make their businesses more accessible for people with certain disabilities - whether it's installing ramps and elevators or increasing the size of their doorways and bathroom stalls.
 

Something happened recently to me that changed my whole personal and professional perspective on accessibility: I purchased an iBOT® 4000 Mobility System. Now, many of the past obstacles that I faced in a regular wheelchair don't exist.

With the iBOT®, I can easily reach cabinets and shelves in my office. I can hold eye-to-eye conversations with my clients. I can easily move around construction sites to review accessibility standards. It's really made a huge difference in my personal and professional life! One of the first jobs I secured after getting my iBOT® Mobility System was the inspection of the second floor of an old historic building. I climbed the stairs in my iBOT®! How's that for breaking down the barriers of accessibility!

With my iBOT® Mobility System, I can get to places that are not currently accessible for most people with disabilities. I hope I can work with my clients in my hometown to change that.
