When people came to my booth to learn about the new
portable microwave, they instead left asking a whole lot more
questions about the iBOT®. The most astounding thing to me was
after their initial shock of the iBOT® wore off, it was
obvious that they had totally forgotten that I was in a
wheelchair! I was talking to and interacting with them at eye
level. And that made all the difference in the world.
In the past, when I would speak with people
from my power wheelchair, it was kind of hard for them to know
what their body language should be. Should they bend over?
Should they look at me or over my head or what? Now that I'm
at their eye level, they aren't thinkingabout my disability.
They're instead talking with me about the products I'm
selling. It definitely has had a magnificent impact on my
business and has kept me in the game!
When I was in a regular power wheelchair, I didn't feel as
empowered as I feel now. I felt restricted. After the
conference was over, people were dead set on leaving. They
were running in all directions, not paying attention to where
they were walking or who they were bumping into. It was hard
to see the people in power chairs through the crowd and people
would need to maneuver around them. It was just as hard for
the people in chairs to move around the crowd. For me though,
the second the show was over, I popped right up into Balance
Function and easily traveled through the crowd…when I wasn't
being stopped every 10 feet by someone asking me about the
