Contraindications for the iBOT® 4000 Mobility System

The criteria below has been designed to determine whether the iBOT® 4000 Mobility System is appropriate for your patient. If any of the following contraindications apply, your patient will not be eligible to purchase the iBOT® 4000 Mobility System:

  • The patient and the items carried weigh less than 75 lbs (34 kg) or more than 250 lbs (113 kg).
  • The items the patient carries weigh more than the maximum limit of 20 lbs (9 kg).
  • The patient does not have sufficient hand function to dial a push-button telephone or operate a hand-operated joystick.
  • The patient is unable to bend the knees such that the feet fit on standard footrests. (For people with one or more amputations, this exclusion does not apply.)
  • The patient is unable to bend the hips enough to sit in a standard wheelchair that does not recline.
  • The patient has lost consciousness or had a seizure in the past 90 days. (There are some exceptions; a healthcare professional will need to assess.)
  • The patient needs a tilt or recline seating system for pressure relief or for activities of daily living.
  • The patient has a requirement for respiratory equipment to be mounted on his or her mobility device.
  • The patient has severe osteoporosis, osteogenesis imperfecta, or metastatic bone cancer. (There are some exceptions, a physician’s clearance is required*.) Due to forces experienced when impacting a hard surface, fractures may occur when climbing stairs or curbs, or when transitioning out of Balance Function.
  • The patient has not successfully completed the user-training program.

*If your patient is at risk for fracture, cardiac, or pulmonary conditions, he or she must obtain a physician’s clearance to qualify for the 4-Wheel, Balance, and Stair Functions.
