What are the product requirements for each function?

The INDEPENDENCE® iBOT® 4000 Mobility System is unlike any power wheelchair. Its combination of unique, innovative functions allows you to go places and do things not possible with any other single mobility device.

The iBOT® Mobility System offers five functions:

Balance FunctionBALANCE FUNCTION

Easily raise yourself to reach high shelves and countertops. Safely travel at eye level. Transverse inclines up to 5 degrees and obstacles up to 1 inch.

Stair FunctionSTAIR FUNCTION

Go up or down steps and stairs. Steps need to be 5 to 8 inches in height; 10-17 inches in depth and landings 52 inches deep.

4-Wheel Function4 WHEEL FUNCTION

Travel over uneven terrains. Climb curbs up to 5 inches high.

Standard FunctionSTANDARD FUNCTION

Travel indoors and outdoors much like a conventional standard power wheelchair. You can even be transported in your vehicle while remaining seated in the iBOT® Mobility System. Transverse inclines up to 5 degrees and obstacles up to 1 inch.

Remote FunctionREMOTE FUNCTION

Allow you to detach the UCP and maneuver the iBOT® Mobility System up a ramp and into a vehicle for unoccupied transportation.

What are the product contraindications?

The iBOT® Mobility System is a prescription device and may not be appropriate for everyone. You must meet all of the user requirements listed below:

  • You do not need a tilt or recline seating system for pressure relief or activities of daily living.
  • You do not have a requirement for respiratory equipment to be mounted on your mobility device.
  • You are able to bend you hips enough to sit in a standard wheelchair that does not recline.
  • You are able to bend your knees such that you feet fit on a standard footrests (for people with one or more amputations, this does not apply).
  • You have not lost consciousness or had a seizure in the past 90 days (some exceptions, ask your healthcare professional for details).
  • You and the items you carry weigh more than 75 lbs and less than 250 lbs. The items you carry weigh less than the maximum limit of 20 lbs.
  • You have sufficient hand function to dial a push-button telephone and operate a hand-operated joystick.
  • You do not have severe osteoporosis, osteogenesis impertecta, or metastatic bone cancer.
  • You must successfully complete the driver-training program and pass a driver’s test.
